Biographical Sketch of Nelson Mandela

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born on 18 July 1918 at Mvezo in South Africa. He was a prominent South African politician and an activist. His children are Zindziswa Mandela, Zenani Mandela and more. He studied Law at the University College of Fort Hare and the University of Witwatersrand. He is known as the ‘Father of South Africa’.

Mandela dedicated his life to fighting against the apartheid system, a racist policy that discriminated against non-white citizens. Mandela's activism led to his imprisonment for 27 years on Robben Island. Despite the long and harsh imprisonment, he continued to fight for justice and equality. His efforts were recognized globally, and after his release, he became the first black President of South Africa, leading the country towards reconciliation and unity.

Throughout his life, Mandela received more than 260 awards, reflecting his global impact and the respect he earned. Among these was the Bharata Ratna in 1990, which was given by the Indian government. He also received The Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2002.

He passed away on 5th December 2013, leaving behind a legacy of courage and dedication to human rights.

Q.no.35(b) answers

Introduction

The given diagram is a bar graph. Bar graphs are important because they can visually present data to compare different values. This bar graph illustrates (/describes) the district-wise Percentage of Votes polled during the 2024 elections in Andhra Pradesh. The data highlights votes polled in ten different districts.

Description

Chittoor district recorded the highest voter turnout with 82.65%, indicating strong voter engagement. West Godavari and Krishna districts also demonstrated high levels of voter participation, with percentages of 82.2% and 81.12%, respectively. Several districts showed moderate levels of voter participation, including Vizianagaram (79.41%), Srikakulam (75.41%), Guntur (75.74%), and Kurnool (75%). On the other end of the spectrum, Alluri Sitaramaraju had the lowest voter turnout at 63.19%, followed by Visakhapatnam with 65.5%.

Analysis

The graph shows a clear variation in voter turnout across different districts. Chittoor, West Godavari, and Krishna, with their high turnout rates, indicate effective voter mobilization and possibly a higher degree of political engagement or satisfaction among the electorate. In contrast, the low turnout in Alluri Sitaramaraju and Visakhapatnam is found. This suggests potential issues such as voter laziness, dissatisfaction, or logistical challenges. The moderate turnout is seen in districts like Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Guntur, and Kurnool. This suggests these areas have average engagement, which could be influenced by a combination of factors present in both high and low-turnout districts.

Conclusion

The bar graph indicates a varied pattern of voter engagement across Andhra Pradesh during the 2024 elections. Chittoor, West Godavari, and Krishna districts led in voter turnout, while Alluri Sitaramaraju and Visakhapatnam lagged behind. Other districts like Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Guntur, and Kurnool had moderate voter participation. Overall, the percentage of voter turnout is satisfactory.
