B.

1.   The story ‘Taro’s Reward’ shows that Taro is thoughtful, hardworking and also wise. Read aloud the parts of the story that show these qualities in Taro.

Answers:

a.  For he was a thoughtful son and wanted to give his old parents everything they needed. (ref. Pg.28 TB para_1)

b. He decided to work harder than before. (ref. Pg.28 TB para_3)

c.  But Taro had been wise enough to slip behind a rock when he saw how things were going. (ref. Pg.31 TB para_11)

2.

i)    Like Patrick in the story ‘Who Did Patrick’s Homework’. Taro is helped by magic. Do you believe in magic? What are the magical things that happen in these stories?

Ans:

No, I don’t believe in magic because they are not real.

In Partick’s story, he wanted to take the help of a tiny man to complete his homework but finally, Patrick helped himself to do his work. Thus, unknowingly he turned himself to hard work.

In Taro’s reward, he was rewarded by the magic waterfall for his hard work and responsibility to his parents.

Though these two stories are magical, definitely they teach us some morals.

ii)   Which story do you like better, and why? Do you know such stories in other languages? Discuss these questions in class.

I like the story of Taro’s Reward because Taro was always working hard unlike Patrick.

Yes, I know such a story from my childhood that a poor woodcutter accidentally slips his axe into a pond. Then he becomes sad and thinks about how to get it back from the pond. On seeing his pain, the goddess of water,  Ganga, comes out and offers him golden axe.

3.   Now write a paragraph or two about these stories, comparing them

Taro’s Reward’ is a story that tells how a son should be to his parents. It promotes hard work and how a hardworking person is rewarded.

Who Did Patrick’s Homework?’ is a story about a lazy boy and how he gets troubled by a tiny man, who was intended to help the boy. Fortunately, the boy gets habituated to hard and finally changes his attitude.
