I love reading stories and drawing pictures. I enjoy playing outdoor games with my friends and spending time with my family. Listening to music and learning new things make me happy.

I get angry when someone is mean to others or does not share. It also makes me upset when people lie or don’t keep their promises.

What I hate to do


I don’t like waking up very early in the morning or doing boring chores. I also hate when I have to sit still for too long without doing anything fun.

What I want to become


I want to become a kind and helpful person when I grow up. I hope to do something special, like being a teacher, doctor, or an artist, so I can make people happy.

1.   With your partner, complete the following sentences in your own words using the ideas in the poem.

 

i)     Do not let a thought shrivel and die because of want of a way to say it.

ii)   English is a wonderful game with words that everyone can play.

iii) One has to match the words to the brightest thoughts in one's head.

iv)  Words are the food and dress of thought.

 

2.   In groups of four discuss the following lines and their meanings.

 

(i) "All that you do is match the words to the brightest thoughts in your head."
Answer:

This means that when you have good ideas or thoughts, you need to find the right words to express them clearly and beautifully.

 

(ii) "For many of the loveliest things have never yet been said."
Answer:

This means that there are many wonderful ideas and feelings that haven't been spoken out loud or shared yet.

 

(iii) "And everyone’s longing today to hear some fresh and beautiful thing."
 Answer:

This suggests that people want to hear new and beautiful ideas, things that are inspiring and uplifting.

 

(iv) "But only words can free a thought from its prison behind your eyes."
 Answer:

This means that thoughts remain inside our minds until we find the right words to express them, and words allow us to share our thoughts with others.
